"Part 1"
Another football week ended, and many more blogs flow into the Live Journal NFL blogs. My focus on sports blogging has now definitely been narrowed down to observing blogs pertaining to the NFL. This is a subject I happen to know a lot about and enjoy researching very much. Football has always been a passion in my life. Race is brought up as the important topic for digital diversity online this week in class. In the "Walk like an Orc, Talk like an Orc" article written by Chris Ritter the focus is about how characters on the online game "World of Warcraft" shows the racial representations For example, there is a group called trolls which live in bamboo huts, with large wooden masks, skulls on spikes, and the programmed language is Caribbean English. The troll characters resemble Africans. In the NFL, there are controversial issues surrounding the criticism of African American athletes in the quarterback position. I stumbled upon a blog in the "NFL fans" blog community showing recent statements made by Donavon McNabb about black quarterbacks receiving more criticism in the NFL than white ones. McNabb states that for black quarterbacks to be accepted as successful, it takes a little bit extra. (more)
